Siliguri, 06th February: With the aim of curbing road accidents and spreading awareness about traffic rules among the public, the Salbari Traffic Guard conducted a special awareness drive on Friday. The campaign was held at the Gyan Jyoti More area under the Salbari Traffic Guard jurisdiction.
During the drive, instead of issuing challans to traffic rule violators, traffic personnel adopted a Gandhigiri approach by offering roses and laddoos to convey the message of safe driving and rule compliance. The initiative was aimed at encouraging motorists to follow traffic norms voluntarily.
It is noteworthy that Siliguri has been witnessing frequent road accidents in recent times. Despite repeated awareness campaigns and imposition of fines, many drivers continue to ride two-wheelers without helmets and drive four-wheelers without wearing seat belts.
Keeping this in mind, the traffic police organised the awareness drive to reinforce the importance of road safety. Children were also given chocolates as part of the campaign to educate them about traffic rules from a young age. The police administration believes that such awareness programmes will play a significant role in reducing road accidents in the future.
