Siliguri, 19th February: As the Safai workers’ protest continues on the third day, garbages are lying untended across the city and the common people are facing extreme difficulties.
Considering this, Minister Goutam Deb held a meeting at Mainak Tourist Lodge with the district administration, Siliguri SDO, SMC commissioner, BoA member Mukul Sengupta, and three trade unions of SMC. However, the protesters had earlier said that they would not attend the meeting.
After the meeting, the minister said that the Safai workers have “declared war” against 7 lakh people in the city. He stated that emergency services cannot be stopped in such a way. With this, SMC has been asked to come up with an alternative plan. If necessary, the minister claimed to take to the streets to clean the city by himself with the party workers.
On the other hand, it has been learned that a case has been filed against the protestors on behalf of SMC. During the demonstration on Thursday, SMC’s vehicle was allegedly vandalized. Following this, a case has been filed.
