Siliguri, 08th September: The Ward No. 46 Vidya Nagar colony area has been lying in a pitiful condition for the past several days. In view of this, the locals staged a road blockade, starting from Champasari to Devidanga, on Tuesday morning.
The agitated locals alleged that various problems are being faced due to the deplorable condition of the roads. Also, they are forced to deal with water-logging during the monsoons, every year. They further complained that despite reporting the matter to the local administration several times, no necessary steps have been taken so far.
The protestors refused to lift the blockade until and unless the Ward Coordinator reached the spot and provided assurance in this regard.
Upon receiving the news, the Pradhan Nagar police reached the spot shortly after. The protestors lifted the road blockade after the police officials assured to look into the matter.
The residents further stated that they would gherao Pradhan Nagar police station tomorrow if no road repairs are initiated by today. Reportedly, the blockade lasted for around two hours, causing massive traffic congestion in the area.
