Road work halted in Rajganj as locals protest over narrow width

Rajganj, 26th December: Local residents stopped road construction work in Rajganj on Thursday, alleging that the work was not being carried out as per their demands.

As per reports, the road is being constructed under the Pathashree-4 project from Motagachh to Chairikhari under the Majhiali Gram Panchayat area of Rajganj block. Residents claimed the road width was inadequate and halted the work in protest.

According to locals, the proposed road from Motagachh on the Ambari-Hathi More State Highway to Karatoya Ghat, associated with the Upanayan of Panchanan Barma, is too narrow as per the current design. They fear this will create long-term problems for vehicular movement and daily commuting.

Residents said they had repeatedly approached the administration demanding a wider and better road, but construction began without addressing their concerns.

Local resident Karunakanta Adhikari said they were not opposed to development but wanted a permanent solution. “We want the road to be built in a way that solves long-standing problems. A narrow road will only cause inconvenience to common people,” he said, adding that several representations had been submitted seeking a wider road.

Responding to the issue, Rajganj Joint BDO Sourav Kanti Mondal said over the phone that no official complaint had been received so far. He added that once a formal complaint is submitted, the matter would be forwarded to the appropriate authorities for necessary action.
