Siliguri, 03rd April: Residents of Matigara along with the family members of a molestation victim staged the protest by road blockade at the Balasan bridge of Matigara, demanding the immediate arrest of the accused.
Reportedly, on March 29 during the occasion of Holi, two youth Jaideep Mandal and Raju Mandal from Matigara Mangalpara, under the influence of alcohol, tried to molest a young woman from Simultala. Upon hearing her scream for help, the girl’s brothers Pintu Baroi and Tinku Baroi rushed to the spot. When they tried to confront the drunk youths, they were attacked by a sharp weapon and the accused fled away from the scene. The injured brothers were admitted to the hospital.
Reportedly, an FIR was lodged at Matigara police station the following day. Despite this, it has been alleged that the police were negligent in apprehending both the accused. Following this, the victim’s family and local people protested and blocked the road. However, the demonstrators lifted the blockade after the police assured them of taking strict action against the said accused.
