Siliguri, 10th July: Vegetable prices have witnessed a significant surge across the city since July, prompting the deployment of a task force to address the underlying reasons behind the price increase. In response to numerous complaints regarding exorbitant vegetable rates, the task force, consisting of representatives from the Siliguri Branch of the State Agriculture Department, conducted operations in several markets in Siliguri, including the Bidhan Market, Champasari Market, and Mahabirsthan Market.
The primary objective of these operations was to ensure that vendors were not engaging in price gouging by hoarding vegetables in the market. Preliminary assessments by officials suggest that the price hike can be attributed to the anticipated rainfall. Meanwhile, the task force will continue its dedicated campaign to tackle the issue at hand.
