Siliguri, 13th November: A serious road accident occurred in Siliguri on Thursday morning when a rickshaw carrying school children was hit by a speeding bus, leaving four children injured, two of them critically.
According to reports, the accident took place near the GRP office in the Air View More area. The bus, moving at high speed, rammed into the rickshaw, causing it to overturn in the middle of the road. Several schoolchildren were on board at the time. Local residents immediately rushed to the spot, rescued the children, and took them to a nearby hospital.
All the injured children have been admitted to a private hospital in Siliguri, where two remain in serious condition. Following the incident, local residents expressed anger, surrounded the offending bus near the Junction area, and demanded strict action against the driver.
Police from the Junction Traffic Guard reached the scene, seized the bus, and handed it over to Pradhan Nagar Police Station. Parents of the injured children have filed a written complaint at the police station.
Locals alleged that overspeeding buses continue to cause frequent accidents in the area and urged the administration to impose stricter control over bus operations. Siliguri Police are investigating the matter.
