Siliguri, 08th December: On Sunday, Siliguri paid homage to revolutionary Badal Gupta on the anniversary of his martyrdom on December 8.
On December 8, 1930, Badal Gupta, along with Binoy Basu and Dinesh Gupta, disguised themselves as Europeans and entered the Writers’ Building in Kolkata to assassinate a British official. To avoid capture by the British army, he ended his life and is forever known as a martyr.
To commemorate his sacrifice, a tribute ceremony was held at the statue of Badal Gupta at Bibadi Chowk in Jalpai More. The event was organized by the Education and Culture Department of Siliguri Municipal Corporation and Borough No. 04. Mayor Gautam Deb led the ceremony, paying his respects to the revolutionary.
Several dignitaries attended the ceremony, including Shobha Subba, Mayor-in-Council for Education and Culture, and Jayanta Saha, Chairman of Borough No. 04.
