Siliguri, 30th January: In a significant move to reduce accidents, the transport department’s MVI team has initiated the installation of retro-reflective tapes along Siliguri’s Eastern Bypass. The tapes were applied at various locations on the night of January 29.
According to reports, the Eastern Bypass has been a hotspot for frequent accidents, and several individuals have lost their lives. To address this issue, the authorities identified the accident-prone areas and dark sections of the road and marked them for installing reflective stickers.
On Wednesday evening, the transport department’s MVI team placed these reflective markers. Those present during the task were Abdul Rohan, Noton Biswas, Shubhankar Sen, Dayal Barman, Abhishek Gupta, and Ajay Lama, among others.
The MVI team stated that it is their moral responsibility as transport department employees to prevent accidents. The team members emphasized that they are personally bearing the expenses for the initiative and are working even during office hours, late at night, and on holidays. Several stretches of roads have already been covered with retro-reflective stickers.
Meanwhile, the drivers and commuters expressed relief over the increased safety measures on the Eastern Bypass.
