Retired government employee dies after being hit by speeding vehicle on Jalpaiguri National Highway

Jalpaiguri, 26th April: A retired government employee lost his life after being struck by a speeding vehicle early Sunday morning on Jalpaiguri National Highway.

The deceased has been identified as Amal Tantra, reportedly, a resident of the Balapara area.

According to sources, Tantra had stepped out for his usual morning walk when the incident occurred. Local residents later found him lying critically injured on the roadside and immediately rushed him to a nearby hospital. However, doctors declared him dead on arrival.

Preliminary investigations indicate that the accident was caused by a speeding vehicle, though further details are yet to be confirmed.

The incident led to a temporary disruption of traffic on the highway, with movement suspended for nearly an hour. Police arrived at the scene soon after being informed, managed the situation, and restored normal traffic flow.
