Siliguri, 20th January: Discontent is growing among residents over the worsening condition of the Jabrabhita underpass, with locals raising serious questions about the role of Dabgram-Fulbari MLA Sikha Chatterjee in resolving the long-standing problem.
Residents said the underpass has been in a dilapidated condition for a long time. While it remains barely usable during winter and summer, the situation turns severe during the monsoon due to heavy waterlogging, making the underpass almost non-functional and increasing the risk of accidents.
According to locals, several accidents, including fatal incidents, have already taken place at the underpass. They claimed that repeated protests and road blockades were organised in the past, but no permanent solution has been implemented so far.
Residents alleged that the MLA’s active role as a public representative has not been visible on the ground. They claimed that whether it is the condition of the underpass or other civic issues, meaningful intervention from the MLA has been lacking.
Locals further alleged that while the MLA is often seen on mobile phones and television platforms, her presence is rarely felt at the site when it comes to addressing the everyday problems faced by residents.
