Residents protest delay in ghat preparations in Siliguri ahead of Chhath Puja

Siliguri, 04th November: Residents of Natun Para in Ward No. 05 of Siliguri staged a protest on Monday over the lack of progress in preparing the Chhath Ghat, a day before the festival.

Notably, Chhath Puja is celebrated in Bihar and various parts of West Bengal. The festival is set to commence on 05th November, prompting worshippers to build pavilions on ghats for the rituals. Several ghats have begun preparation for the construction while the residents of Natun Para expressed frustration that work on their ghat has not yet begun.

Protesters accused contractors of causing the delay and complained that the work was progressing smoothly in other locations except in that area. The contractors are not fulfilling their responsibilities. They voiced their anger over the negligence and demanded immediate action to ensure the ghat was ready for the festival.

Tukai Paswan, secretary of the Natun Para Chhath Puja committee, confirmed that despite receiving full support from the state government, the project has been delayed due to contractor issues. He further demanded the immediate commencement of Chhat Ghat preparations.

Ward Councilor Anita Mahato commented on the situation and confirmed that the contractors are not performing adequately. The puja committee is facing problems as a result of their actions. She assured that she would address the issue with the concerned contractors for a swift construction process.

Thus people become impotent n expect the government to do every thing for them when they begin the process of appeasement n try to wind the votes – which usually goes to BJP
