Residents of Nepali Basti protest dumping of Sikkim waste in Siliguri

Siliguri, 11th November: Residents of Nepali Basti in Siliguri have expressed outrage over allegations that waste from the neighboring state of Sikkim is being illegally dumped in their area.

For several days, the locals of the area near the Baikunthapur forest have reported a foul odour and the sight of trucks carrying waste from Sikkim. On Monday morning, locals intercepted four such trucks and informed the Ambari police station.

According to local residents, the trucks have been arriving for some time, concealing the waste. The drivers, however, were unable to provide any authorization for dumping the waste in the area.

Environmental activists and local residents have gathered at the site to protest against the dumping. They claimed that dumping the waste in that area is posing a serious threat to public health and the environment. They have demanded that the authorities take immediate action to stop this practice and hold those responsible.
