Siliguri, 17th October: The residents of Baribhasa VIP Road undertook the initiative of repairing the road themselves by levelling accusations against the Siliguri Jalpaiguri Development Authority (SJDA) chairman.
It is to be noted that the Baribhasa VIP road has been in a dilapidated state for a prolonged period of time. As a result, significant accidents frequently occur in the area, some leading to fatalities. The residents complained about the lack of an outcome despite demanding road repair. Concerned, the local residents decided to give up on the administration and take matters into their own hands.
Locals claimed that the SJDA Chairman had assured reconstruction of the road prior to Durga Pujas. However, no such initiatives had been undertaken by the authorities. This has led to several collisions among Totos (e-rickshaws), auto-rickshaws, and two-wheelers. Subsequently, the locals resorted to repairing the road themselves.
On Tuesday, SJDA Chairman Sourav Chakraborty stated over the phone that the people working on repairing the road are doing a good work and that the administration will look into the matter in alignment with their scheduled plans.
