Siliguri, 06th August: In a recent development, employees of the Siliguri Municipal Corporation (SMC) encountered public anger on Tuesday while attempting to demolish illegal structures erected on government land in Sitala Para under SMC’s Ward No. 31.
According to reports, a house had been constructed by encroaching on government property in the area. SMC workers arrived to dismantle the illegal construction as part of an ongoing anti-encroachment campaign. However, the operation faced significant resistance from local residents. The residents complained that they were given notice only the previous day, leaving them insufficient time to address the issue before the demolition began.
The situation led to a halt in the demolition process as people expressed their displeasure and obstructed the SMC workers. Ultimately, in the presence of Municipal Corporation officials, the residents themselves demolished the unauthorized structure.
