Phansidewa, 28th August: The residents of ten villages including Antu Jote, Danagachh, and Nayan Jote, protested, on Monday, by blocking the Siliguri-Kolkata National Highway (NH) 31 at Hanskhoya More of Phansidewa. The protest also witnessed the active participation of school students.
The protestors alleged that the condition of the rural road was in a dilapidated state. They added that due to the collapse of a culvert, approximately 50 meters length of the road has transformed into a pit. Under the circumstances, the commuters traveled by risking their lives. As per the locals, the condition of the road has been deplorable for the past 5 years. Despite assurance on several occasions, the administration allegedly did not resolve their grievances.
Upon receiving the news, Bagdogra Police along with Phansidewa Block Development Officer (BDO) Sanju Guha Majumdar arrived at the site of the protest. Subsequently, the roadblock and protest were relaxed upon assurance to address their demands.
