Rajganj, 23rd August: In the Dhaneshwari village, situated under the Majhiali Gram Panchayat of Rajganj, a house was plunged into alarm when a substantial portion of their tin fence suddenly gave way under the weight of heavy rain on Tuesday night. The property belongs to Shibu Debnath, a local resident of the Dhaneshwari village.
As per reports, the heavy rainfall on Tuesday led to flooding in multiple areas of Rajganj overnight. The excess water from the village surged through the drainage channel adjacent to Shibu’s residence. Consequently, a segment of the tin fence adjoining the house collapsed due to the pressure exerted by the rainwater. This unforeseen incident caused the residents of the house to endure a night fraught with fear and uncertainty.
Shibu Debnath recounted the moment when, around 2:30 AM on Tuesday night, a loud noise alerted him to the fact that a portion of the house had crumbled due to the force of the water. He expressed his helplessness, mentioning that he was currently supporting his family by operating an e-rickshaw (Toto). He conveyed his concerns and stressed that if the government does not provide assistance, he might be compelled to initiate a sit-in protest.
Compounding the matter, a considerable trench has formed as a result of the incident. Additionally, various areas have transformed into hazardous zones, posing a threat to the lives of the villagers. This situation has raised concerns that a potentially catastrophic event could occur at any moment.
Responding swiftly, Sumit Dutta, the Pradhan of the Majhiali Gram Panchayat, visited the site and other risky locations within the area on Wednesday morning. Addressing the issue, he assured that the matter would be expeditiously brought to the attention of the block office for swift resolution. He emphasized his personal involvement in assessing the ground situation and affirmed his commitment to escalate the matter to the block office for immediate action.
