Siliguri, 27th May: The Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) has called for a 24-hour student strike on the campus of the North Bengal University (NBU) demanding the expulsion and punishment of Professor Siddharth Shankar Laha in connection to the death of the research scholar.

According to reports, the ABVP protestors closed Gate Number 02 of the university on Monday morning with a warded lock and closed several departments of the university.

It is to be noted that the distressing incident unfolded on May 16 when the lifeless body of a research scholar was found hanging from the noose at a rented accommodation in Shiv Mandir. Consequently, the professor has been removed from his duties at North Bengal University.

Meanwhile, the ABVP has started the movement demanding action against the accused from the first day of the incident. Followed by an indefinite strike two days ago, the organization has called for a 24-hour strike. The university has been evidently impacted by the strike since morning.
