Relief in sight for Siliguri’s drinking water woes: New intake well construction set to commence in Fulbari

Siliguri, 07th September: The persistent drinking water problem plaguing the city of Siliguri may soon become a thing of the past. The construction of a new intake well is set to commence in Fulbari, providing hope for a long-term solution to the issue.

Despite efforts by both previous and current municipal administrations, Siliguri has continued to grapple with drinking water disruptions, causing inconvenience to its residents. In light of these ongoing problems, the Siliguri Municipal Corporation has received approval from the state to proceed with the construction of a new intake well, a project estimated to cost Rs 6.9 crore.

While the project faced delays due to a land dispute, successful negotiations have now resolved this hurdle. Mayor Goutam Deb, accompanied by officials from the irrigation department, is scheduled to visit the site on September 09. If all goes well, the foundation stone for the new intake well may also be laid during this visit.

Mayor Deb convened an important meeting today, gathering officials from the Irrigation Department, Mahananda Barrage, Teesta Barrage, PHE, and the Municipal Corporation to discuss the project’s progress and address the city’s pressing water supply issues.
