Siliguri, 02nd June: Various areas of Ward No. 46 in Siliguri are submerged underwater after heavy rainfall, on Tuesday. Ranjan Sarkar, a member of the BoA at SMC, visited the area on Wednesday and heard about the problems of the residents.
For many years, the North Mallaguri area gets inundated even after light rains. The residents complained that although former councillor Mukul Sengupta was notified several times, no appropriate steps have been taken so far.
Residences in the said area were flooded on Tuesday night due to heavy rainfall. Ranjan Sarkar reached the spot on Wednesday afternoon and noticed that the sewers were blocked with sand and various construction materials. Sarkar expressed outrage over the issue and said that legal action will be taken if roads are illegally blocked with construction materials.
“The problems of the people here are long-standing. We are looking into it to figure out a solution. A JCB was deployed to unblock the sewers today. In addition to this, the cleaning staff of SMC was hired by the borough office. After noon, the condition improved in the area,” he added.
