Rally held in Kharibari in support of Nationwide General Strike called by AIUTUC on 20th May

Kharibari, 12th May: In support of various demands, the All India United Trade Union Centre (AIUTUC) has called for a nationwide general strike on 20th May. On Monday, members of the Paschim Banga ASHA Workers Union Darjeeling branch and AIUTUC organized a rally in Kharibari, urging the public to join the strike.

The rally commenced from the Kharibari BDO office and passed through various localities before concluding at Kharibari High School. ASHA and Anganwadi workers participating in the rally voiced concerns over working conditions, claiming that despite working year-round, they only receive payment for ten months, with allowances instead of full wages.

Namita Chakraborty, President of the Darjeeling branch of Paschim Banga ASHA Karmi Union, expressed that the strike is aimed at protesting against the Central Government’s neglect of these workers’ rights, as well as other pressing demands. AIUTUC Darjeeling Branch Secretary also emphasized that the strike would address issues such as rising prices and demand recognition for scheme workers.
