Siliguri, 20th August: The Darjeeling Congress Committee celebrated the 76th birth anniversary of Rajiv Gandhi, the former Prime Minister of India and former President of the All India Congress Committee, in the District Congress Committee office.
Reportedly, Congress leader Shankar Malakar and other party leaders paid homage to Rajiv Gandhi by laying a wreath at his portrait. The programme was organized following all the government protocols.
During the programme, Shankar Malakar stated that the party had earlier requested the Chief Minister to cancel the bi-weekly lockdown today. He expressed displeasure over their request being ignored and the bi-weekly lockdown being observed across the state today.
