Rajganj residents celebrated ‘Urus Utsav’ across the Indo-Bangladesh border

Rajganj, 15th February: On Thursday, the ‘Urus Utsav’ was celebrated across the Indo-Bangladesh border on the other side of the Jumma Gachh area of Sannyasikata Gram Panchayat under the Rajganj block. Reportedly, a large number of people participated in the festival organized at the Dargah of Pir Baba Abdul Rasheed.

According to the locals, the residence of religious leader, Abdul Rasheed was in Bangladesh and passed away at a relative’s house in Sannyasikata. After his death, he was buried at the ‘Zero Point’ on the border of both countries, to fulfill his wish. However, during that period, there were no barbed fences on the border. Since then, the festival has been celebrated collectively every year on the special day of ‘Falgun’ month. Later, despite the fence, the festival continued with the permission of the Border Security Force (BSF).

This year, on the 35th ‘Urus’ celebration of Hazrat Shah Sufi Abdul Rasheed, the border gate was opened for a fixed schedule by BSF, amid tight security arrangements. During this, a large number of people from Rajganj block reached Mazar Sharif. Significantly, they were allowed to cross the border after checking their identity cards.
