Rajganj: Khageswar Roy to remain in TMC; Mamata Banerjee’s call ends rift

Rajganj, 19th March: Khageswar Roy has confirmed that he will continue with the Trinamool Congress following a phone call from Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, which resolved his dissatisfaction over not receiving a party ticket.

Addressing a press conference along with senior party leaders, the four-time Rajganj MLA said he will stay with the party and work for its candidates in the upcoming elections. He stated that Mamata Banerjee had called him on Wednesday night and instructed him to continue working for the party, adding that he would not disregard her directive.

Roy acknowledged that he had been upset since the announcement of candidates and had been expressing his dissatisfaction, but said the matter has now been resolved. He confirmed that he will support the party’s nominees in the elections.

A founding member of the Jalpaiguri district TMC, Khageswar Roy first became MLA from Rajganj in a 2009 by-election and went on to win the seat in 2011, 2016, and 2021. His exclusion from the 2026 ticket list had led to speculation, which has now been settled following the intervention of the party leadership.
