Siliguri, 02nd July: A shocking incident at Thakurnagar Railway Gate near the Eastern Bypass of Siliguri has stirred significant controversy, following allegations of brutality against two youths by railway police officers.
According to reports, the incident unfolded on Tuesday amidst a traffic jam at Thakurnagar railway gate when a youth approached the railway police officer stationed at the location, seeking urgent passage due to an emergency. During this, the railway police allegedly mistreated and severely assaulted the youth. Meanwhile, another youth attempting to record the altercation on his cellphone was reportedly subjected to physical assault by the railway police and the cellphone was seized.
Subsequently, the locals began to gather at the scene in protest against the alleged misconduct. The situation escalated and the railway police had to be removed from the area. On the other hand, the outraged locals complained that the accused official was under the influence of alcohol and that they would file a complaint against it.
Meanwhile, NJP police and RPF senior officers rushed to the scene and normalized the situation. Later, the injured youth was sent to Siliguri district hospital while the police are probing into the entire incident.
