PWD cleaning staff stage protest in front of Ashok Bhattacharya’s office

Siliguri, 18th January: On Monday, the cleaning staff of PWD under Siliguri Municipal Corporation staged demonstrations in front of Ashok Bhattacharya’s office for not being paid the promised amount during the COVID-19 period.

Allegedly, they were assured of being paid 100 rupees per day for three months during the COVID-19 pandemic. However, the workers have not received a single penny. Besides, they were also promised a salary hike of 10 percent in 2020. Hence, they staged a protest today.

Following the protest, the SMC assured to pay the money within the next three days. Meanwhile, Siliguri Municipal Committee Congress member Soumen Das Nath warned of staging larger demonstrations if they are not paid within January 25.
