Siliguri, 18th January: Accused Sanjay Roy has been found guilty in the R.G. Kar case by the Sealdah Court, with the sentencing scheduled for Monday. The conviction of Roy has led to renewed protests at North Bengal Medical College and Hospital, as junior doctors voiced their dissent.
The protesting doctors argued that Sanjay Roy was not the only person responsible for the incident, and they believe there were several other individuals involved. They claimed that both the state and the central government’s CBI have been collaborating, and they demanded a fair investigation. Doctors, junior medical staff, and students gathered to protest, and some blocked the roads for a brief period.
Dr. Shahriar Alam, one of the protest leaders, stated that Roy alone is not guilty, and many others are involved in the case. He expressed dissatisfaction with the court’s verdict, asserting that the real culprits have not yet been brought to justice.
Saheli Mukherjee, a medical student at North Bengal Medical College, echoed the sentiment, emphasizing that multiple individuals were involved in the incident. She called for the real perpetrators to be brought to justice and punished accordingly.
