Protest in Purba Chayan Para, Siliguri against installation of new mobile tower

Siliguri, 30th December: Tension arose in Purba Chayan Para, near the Eastern Bypass in Siliguri, over the proposed installation of a new mobile tower, prompting local residents to protest. The tower installation work has been temporarily halted following opposition from the community.

According to reports, there is already an existing mobile tower in the area. A company recently initiated plans to install another tower at the same location without informing the local residents. The issue has been a source of unrest in the neighborhood for nearly three months.

On Tuesday, residents gathered to stop the installation work and staged a protest. Police from Ashighar Outpost arrived at the scene, and their intervention helped control the situation. The installation work was suspended due to local opposition.

Residents raised concerns about radiation from the existing tower and warned that installing another tower could significantly impact public health. They also questioned how the work was being initiated without any NOC (No Objection Certificate).
