Rajganj, 26th March: Discontent has emerged within the Bharatiya Janata Party in Rajganj over the announced candidate for the assembly elections. Party workers and supporters took to the streets demanding a change, staging protests against the declared nominee.
Following the release of the party’s third candidate list, Dinesh Sarkar, also known as Haradhan Sarkar, was named BJP candidate for the Rajganj assembly seat. The announcement immediately sparked dissatisfaction within the party ranks.
On Thursday, workers and supporters in the Bagdogra area protested, stating they would not accept the current candidate. They urged the party to replace the candidate promptly, warning that the issue could affect the election outcome.
Protesters also demanded that the ticket for Rajganj be given to a candidate from the Rajbanshi community. During the demonstration, anger was expressed against BJP state secretary and former Jalpaiguri district president Bapi Goswami, who was accused of influencing the candidate selection process.
The incident has highlighted internal divisions within the party amid the election atmosphere.
