Protest erupts at Naxalbari police station demanding justice for minor gang rape victim

Naxalbari, 28th April: CPI(M) workers and plantation workers staged a protest at the Naxalbari police station, demanding strict punishment for those responsible for the gang rape of a minor girl in Naxalbari. The incident allegedly took place on the night of 20th April at the Kiranchandra Tea Estate in Naxalbari.


Following an investigation, Naxalbari police arrested three youths in connection with the case. However, it has been alleged that since the incident, the victim’s family members have been receiving death threats.

On Monday, plantation workers took to the streets, blocking the state road leading to Panighatta and raising slogans of ‘We want justice’ while demanding safety and security for the victim’s family.


CPI(M) leader Gautam Ghosh stated that an atmosphere of terror has engulfed the area and the minor victim is currently fighting for her life. He demanded a thorough police investigation into the incident and the immediate punishment of the culprits. Ghosh also warned that if justice is delayed, a massive movement will be launched in the coming days.
