Bagdogra, 12th January: The mortal remains of renowned hill singer and Indian Idol Season 3 winner Prashant Tamang were brought to Bagdogra airport on Monday, where scenes of deep grief unfolded as family members broke down on seeing the coffin.
Prashant Tamang passed away in Delhi after suffering a cardiac arrest. The news of his sudden demise sent shockwaves across the hills, plunging the region into mourning.
A large number of dignitaries and admirers gathered at Bagdogra airport to pay their final respects. Among those present were Darjeeling MP Raju Bista, GTA Chief Executive Anit Thapa, and Darjeeling MLA Neeraj Zimba.
Prashant Tamang rose to national fame after winning Indian Idol Season 3, winning millions of hearts with his voice. He went on to sing numerous songs in Nepali as well as Hindi and also appeared in several web series.
Leaders and admirers described his death as an irreparable loss to the nation, the state, and the hills. MP Raju Bista said Prashant Tamang’s songs once united the Gorkha community, highlighting his cultural and emotional impact on the region.
The hills continue to mourn the untimely loss of an artist whose voice became a symbol of pride and unity.
