Pradhan Nagar police arrest a habitual offender once again in a theft case in Siliguri

Siliguri, 21st August: In a swift operation, undercover officers from Pradhan Nagar police station have once again arrested a known habitual offender, Sunil Tamang, in connection with a recent theft case.


According to reports, a private school near Bhanu Bhakta Chowk in the Gurung Basti area had been closed since August 15. During this period, Tamang allegedly broke a window and stole Rs. 1.87 lakh. The theft was discovered when the school reopened on Tuesday, prompting the management to file a formal complaint at Pradhan Nagar police station.

Acting on the complaint, police initiated an investigation and solved the case within 12 hours. Based on a tip-off, officers conducted a raid at Siliguri Junction’s SJDA Market late on Tuesday night and arrested Tamang. They recovered Rs. 26,500 from him.


The accused was produced in Siliguri court on Wednesday, where police sought his remand. Investigations are ongoing to recover the remaining stolen money and determine if others were involved.

It is noteworthy that 29-year-old Sunil Tamang has a long criminal history, with multiple arrests by Pradhan Nagar police alone. As per sources, he has been apprehended seven times by Pradhan Nagar police for various theft-related cases.
