Siliguri, 26th January: The current Inspector-in-Charge (IC) of Pradhan Nagar Police Station, Basudev Sarkar, Siliguri, has been honored with the prestigious President’s Police Medal. The award has brought immense joy to the Siliguri Metropolitan Police department.
The 76th Republic Day was celebrated across the country, including in Siliguri, where a Republic Day event was held at the Siliguri Police Commissionerate grounds. During the ceremony, Police Commissioner C. Sudhakar presented Basudev Sarkar with the President’s Police Medal.
In 2023, Basudev Sarkar was selected for the award and his name was forwarded to the Ministry of Home Affairs. At that time, Sarkar was serving at the Alipurduar Police Station. In 2024, he was transferred to Pradhan Nagar Police Station in Siliguri. On January 25th, the Ministry of Home Affairs released the list of police officers who would receive the President’s Police Medal, which included Sarkar’s name.
This is the third medal Basudev Sarkar has received from the President. Previously, he was awarded the President’s Police Medal in 2003 and 2005. After receiving the latest honor, Sarkar expressed his happiness, saying he was overwhelmed and couldn’t find words to describe his joy. He added that his first medal, the President’s Gallantry Medal, was awarded in 2003 for an encounter with terrorists and militants in Kumargram. In 2005, he was honored with the award once again. With over 20 years of service, this is his third prestigious recognition.
