Siliguri, 06th April: Political tensions intensified in Siliguri ahead of the elections over allegations of poster and banner tampering. Police reached the residence of a BJP worker as part of an investigation, triggering protests from BJP leaders.
According to sources, the investigation was initiated following a complaint lodged by the Trinamool Congress regarding defacement of campaign materials. Acting on the complaint, police visited a BJP worker’s house, leading to unrest in the area.
BJP candidate Shankar Ghosh reached the spot after receiving information and got into an argument with a police officer. The situation escalated as party workers and supporters gathered at the location.
Later, Shankar Ghosh, along with supporters, marched to the Panitanki Outpost and staged a protest. He alleged that BJP workers are being deliberately targeted ahead of the elections.
Ghosh further claimed that police are taking one-sided action based solely on complaints, which goes against the spirit of a democratic environment.
