Political buzz as Khageswar Roy remains absent from meeting held in support of TMC candidate Swapna Barman in Belakoba, Rajganj

Rajganj, 21st March: Absence of four-time MLA Khageswar Roy from a workers’ meeting organised in support of Trinamool Congress candidate Swapna Barman in Belakoba has triggered political discussion.

The meeting was held on Saturday at the Harimandir in Belakoba, organised by Krishna Das, coordinator of Rajganj assembly constituency and TMC candidate from Jalpaiguri Sadar. Leaders from various regions and blocks were present, but Khageswar Roy was notably absent.

Also missing from the meeting were TMC Rajganj block president Arindam Banerjee, Sarbani Dhara, and Panchayat Samiti president Rupali Dey Sarkar. Their absence has led to speculation in political circles.

Krishna Das, however, dismissed the concerns, stating that all block, region committees, and frontal organisations of the Rajganj assembly constituency were part of the meeting. He added that the MLA and block president had been informed earlier.

He further said the MLA was attending another meeting with him and is currently occupied with preparations for Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee’s upcoming visit to Maynaguri on the 24th, where he serves as district chairman. The block president was also engaged elsewhere and could not attend.

Krishna Das expressed confidence that the Trinamool Congress will win all seven assembly seats in the district, including Rajganj.

Meanwhile, BJP media convener of Rajganj constituency Tapan Roy claimed that Khageswar Roy’s ticket denial was influenced by Krishna Das. He added that BJP will win Rajganj and the outcome will be clear once the candidate is announced.
