Siliguri, 10th August: In a significant crackdown, the police conducted a raid on an illegal call center situated within the IT Park at Matigara in Siliguri. Prompted by a tip-off, the Matigara police station, in collaboration with the Special Operations Group (SOG) and the Cyber Crime Police, executed a meticulously planned operation at the targeted location earlier today. Preliminary information indicated the presence of three unauthorized call centers actively operating in the said location.
During the operation, law enforcement officials seized several documents from the office. The call center were reportedly involved in duping individuals by making calls to foreign countries, engaging in fraudulent schemes particularly in relation to health insurance. This caused financial losses to unsuspecting victims who were deceived by the enticing offers presented over the phone.
The IT Park in Matigara has faced similar issues in the past. The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) had previously undertaken a vigorous campaign to combat illegal call center operations in this area, resulting in the arrest of several individuals. However, the resurgence of such illicit activities raises concerns about the effectiveness of these efforts.
In response, the police have vowed to intensify their campaign against these unauthorized call centers, working diligently to dismantle their operations.
