Siliguri, 15th May: In a significant breakthrough, the Siliguri Special Operation Group (SOG) and Bhakti Nagar police station collaborated to bust a long-running drug smuggling operation concealed within a taxi service. Acting on a tip-off, the police conducted a joint operation resulting in the apprehension of two individuals involved in the illicit trade. The accused, identified as Hajikul Sheikh and Mohammad Noor Alam, were caught red-handed with a substantial quantity of narcotics at the PC Mittal bus stand.
Hajikul Sheikh, a resident of Murshidabad, had arrived at the bus stand carrying brown sugar and intoxicating tablets with the intention of smuggling them into Siliguri. Coinciding with his arrival, Mohammad Noor Alam, a local resident and a taxi driver, had brought his vehicle to collect the contraband from Sheikh. Swift action was taken upon receiving the tip-off, leading to a search operation in a secluded area behind the PC Mittal bus stand. The authorities discovered 290 grams of brown sugar and 1000 tablets of intoxicating substances concealed in Sheikh’s bag. The estimated street value of the seized drugs is approximately Rs 6 lakh. Both individuals were subsequently arrested.
It has been revealed that Noor Alam had prior arrests related to drug trafficking, and he had resorted to smuggling narcotics under the guise of a taxi. The accused will be presented before the Jalpaiguri court on Tuesday, and a thorough investigation is underway to uncover the full extent of their operations.
