Siliguri, 12th December: Police in Siliguri have once again stopped illegal sand and stone theft from local rivers, arresting two individuals involved in the racket.
Reportedly, on Thursday night, plainclothes officers from NJP Police Station conducted a late-night patrol at the river ghats. During the operation, a truck loaded with sand was stopped.
The occupants failed to produce any valid documents for the sand, leading to their arrest. The arrested individuals have been identified as Sumit Barman from Matigara and Nikhil Barman from Sitalkuchi, Cooch Behar.
Police sources stated that the duo had been involved in illegal sand smuggling for a long time. On Friday, the arrested individuals were sent to Jalpaiguri Court. The police continue to investigate the entire incident.
