Siliguri, 18th December: In a recent restructuring within the Siliguri Metropolitan Police Department, Sonam Lama has been appointed as the new IC of the NJP police station. Meanwhile, the previous OC of NJP, Nirmal Kumar Das, has been transferred.
According to reports, Nirmal Kumar Das has been removed from his current posting at NJP police station and assigned to the police headquarters. Additionally, there has been a reshuffle in the Crime Wing (PC) OCs for NJP and Bagdogra. This change was announced on Tuesday night by senior officials of the Siliguri Metropolitan Police.
Nirmal Kumar Das has been transferred to the police lines, while Ganesh Roy, the former PC OC, has been assigned to Bagdogra. Shamik Paul, the former OC of Bagdogra PC, has now assumed position as the new head of the NJP Police Station’s Crime Wing.
DCP Rakesh Singh of Siliguri Metropolitan Police explained that NJP was previously considered an outpost. Consequently, an officer with an SI rank was managing its operations. However, NJP was upgraded to a full-fledged police station a few years ago. As a result, Nirmal Kumar Das has been moved to the police lines, and the position of OC at NJP has been filled by Sonam Lama, an officer with an Inspector rank.
