Naxalbari, 16th February: Police achieved success in cracking two separate theft cases reported from Naxalbari and Kharibari police station areas under the Siliguri Sub Division, recovering stolen property within 12 hours.
According to sources, in the Naxalbari police station area, miscreants broke into a house after finding it vacant and looted gold jewellery along with ₹1.70 lakh in cash. The accused reportedly arrived on a scooty and fled after committing the theft.
Following the complaint, Naxalbari police examined CCTV footage and launched an investigation. With assistance from Matigara police station, the prime accused, Deepak Das, was arrested during the night.
In a separate incident under Kharibari police station limits, an e-rickshaw driver was allegedly drugged after being offered a cold drink by a passenger posing as a commuter. The accused then fled with the vehicle. Acting on the complaint, Kharibari police initiated an investigation and arrested Rangalal Banik in connection with the e-rickshaw theft. The stolen e-vehicle was recovered from his possession.
Both accused were produced before the Siliguri Sub-Divisional Court. Addressing a press conference, Naxalbari SDPO Saumyajit Roy stated that investigations into both cases are ongoing and efforts are underway to arrest the remaining accused persons.
