Police bust prostitution racket in a residence in Siliguri, two including house owner arrested

Siliguri, 26th October: In a significant breakthrough, the police successfully exposed a prostitution ring within a residence on Sharda Muni Road of Ashrampara under Ward No. 14 of Siliguri Municipal Corporation (SMC). The incident led to the arrest of the accused owner of the residence, Rita Dey Chowdhury, and another individual, namely, Sachin Bhagat.


According to reports, the locals alleged that the accused woman Rita operated a prostitution ring in her house. The incident became a subject of suspicion when the locals spotted a queue of motorbikes and scooters formed outside her residence. Following this, on Wednesday, the incident was reported to the Panitanki Outpost police. Subsequently, the police raided the residence based on the complaint.

During the raid, the cops reportedly found the accused man and a woman in the residence in an obscene condition. Five other women were, thereafter, rescued and the accused Sachin Bhagat was taken into custody. Meanwhile, the owner of the house, Rita Dey Chowdhury was interrogated. On Thursday morning, the Panitanki Outpost officials apprehended the accused woman on the charge of conducting a prostitution ring in her residence. Later, both the accused were produced before the court. At present, the matter is under further police investigation.
