Police bust hookah-booze party in Siliguri amid lockdown, 14 arrested

Siliguri, 21st May: The coronavirus pandemic has affected crores of people and claimed over 2.91 lakh lives in India. Several states are under lockdown to contain the spread of the virus. Yet there are many who flout social distancing guidelines and quarantine laws every day.


One such case surfaced from Siliguri last night when the police of Bhaktinagar police station busted a group of people partying in a club amid the lockdown. 14, including 5 young women and 9 men, were nabbed by the police from a pub located in Planet Mall on Sevoke Road.

The arrested have been identified as Subho Das, Santosh Dahal, Gitish Chauhan, Karan Darjee, Mahadev Dey, Muhammad Sadan, Abhishek Bhattacharya, Ayush Tyagi, Chandan Mandra, Vaishali Sharma, Nayan Mani Chaudhary, Shivani Ghosh, Sushmita Kundu and Maya Rani Barman.


Bhaktinagar police have registered a case under the Disaster Management Act against the arrested and presented them before the Jalpaiguri court today. In addition to this, the police have also taken action against the owner of the pub. According to the information received, the license of the restaurant can also be cancelled after investigation.

On the other hand, police recovered a huge amount of hookah, beer, liquor etc. from the pub. It is to be noted, Darjeeling District recorded 631 COVID-19 cases in last 24-hour on Thursday.
