Police bust cattle smuggling in Siliguri, 21 buffaloes rescued, two arrested

Siliguri, 08th January: Siliguri Metropolitan Police’s SOG, in coordination with Matigara Police Station, busted a major illegal cattle smuggling operation. Acting on a tip-off, police conducted a raid on National Highway-10 and rescued 21 buffaloes being transported in a goods truck.


Reportedly, the truck was carrying the animals without any valid transport documents. The driver and co-driver, identified as Mohammad Jahangir and Mohammad Murtaza, were arrested on the spot. The truck has been seized, and both accused were presented in court on Thursday.

Police have launched a detailed investigation into the case to determine the full scope of the smuggling operation.
