Police arrest man on charges of deception under the guise of blood provision in NBMCH

Siliguri, 04th March: A fraud case has been reported from North Bengal Medical College and Hospital (NBMCH) where a patient’s family was allegedly duped by a broker under the guise of blood provision. The Medical Outpost police have successfully apprehended the broker in connection to the case. The arrested accused has been identified as Shiva Das (25), a resident of Sushruta Nagar in Kawakhali.


According to information received, on February 26, Aminur Alam, a resident of Tufanganj in Cooch Behar, admitted his ailing wife to the NBMCH for treatment. Subsequently, the medical officials instructed him to get blood for the treatment. Later, on February 29, Aminur encountered the accused Shiva on the college campus. At their initial meeting, Shiva introduced himself as a blood bank staffer of the medical college. Aminur urged Shiva to provide him with two units of blood.

However, the accused Shiva allegedly absconded with Rs 3300. After several efforts to locate the fraudster, Aminur was able to arrange the required blood from some other place. On Sunday, Aminur spotted Shiva in the medical college; however, Shiva fled the scene after a heated argument. Following this, Aminur filed a written complaint at the Medical Outpost.


Upon investigating the case, the officials of the Medical Outpost arrested the accused Shiva from Kawakhali. On Monday, the police registered a case against the accused on charges of fraud and produced him before the Siliguri Court. Currently, the case is under further investigation.
