Siliguri, 25th January: With Republic Day set to be celebrated across the nation on 26th January, police and security agencies in Siliguri are on high alert to ensure public safety and security.
Special monitoring is underway for individuals and vehicles entering the city. Comprehensive checking operations are being conducted at various locations, including malls, junctions, NJP station, Bidhan Market, bus stands, hotels, and other crowded areas. Police are meticulously tracking hotel guests and maintaining vigilance across all parts of the city.
On Saturday, the S.B. team of Siliguri Metropolitan Police conducted a campaign at the NBSTC bus stand in Siliguri Junction. Passengers and the bus stand were inspected using sniffer dogs and metal detectors.
Similarly, on Friday night, under the leadership of IC Arindam Chatterjee of Matigara Police Station, a security check was conducted at City Center Shopping Mall, where sniffer dogs and metal detectors were utilized. IC Chatterjee also instructed the mall’s security personnel to report any suspicious items to the police immediately.
Speaking about the security arrangements, DCP Bishwa Chand Thakur shared that more than 700 police personnel will be deployed on Republic Day. Visitors in hotels are being monitored, and checking operations with sniffer dogs and metal detectors are being carried out at bus stands and malls. Traffic checkpoints have been set up for additional inspections, and a special control room has been established to monitor city activities through CCTV surveillance.
To enhance city security, patrolling will be conducted by QRT vans, undercover police, special surveillance teams, and pink patrolling vans for women. The Winners Squad and bike patrols will also be active. Departments such as DD, SOG, IB, and DAB are on high alert.
DCP Thakur affirmed that the Siliguri Metropolitan Police is fully prepared to ensure a peaceful celebration of Republic Day.
