Phansidewa, 24th April: Amidst the traditional vegetable farming traits in the villages of Phansidewa, Anil Das stands out with his lucrative venture of cultivating marigold flowers. Residing in Tava Jote village of Phansidewa under Jalas Nizamata Anchal, Anil has mastered year-round marigold cultivation, reaping profits in every season.
Reportedly, Phansidewa block, situated adjacent to Siliguri, predominantly engages in agriculture. However, Anil Das stood ahead of the usual, dedicating nearly two bigha of land to marigold cultivation for the past 15 years.
While speaking on his success, Anil Das highlighted the favorable market demand and prices for marigold flowers, particularly when cultivated consistently throughout the year.
Emphasizing the involvement of local women, Anil mentioned their diligent efforts stating that they pluck the flowers in terms of kilos and receive payments based on their efforts. He added that, many women in the village craft beautiful garlands from these flowers and sell in the vibrant markets of Siliguri.
