Phansidewa police crack down on fraud ring, arrests two including main accused

Phansidewa, 05th March: After a long nine-month absence, the main accused in a fraud ring, Mohammad Sahidul, along with an accomplice, has been arrested.


Reportedly, on May 28 last year, following allegations of looting money from common people under the guise of an online shop, Phansidewa police raided Paschim Nijbazar and Hagragachh. During the raid, a large number of bank accounts, ATMs, cheque books, voter ID cards, and Aadhaar cards were recovered. However, Shahidul managed to escape upon learning about the police operation.

Allegedly, Shahidul used to rent bank accounts of common people and siphon money from them. After nine months, the police of Ghoshpukur Outpost successfully arrested him. His accomplice, Anil Gop, was also taken into custody.


The arrested individuals were produced before the Siliguri Sub-Divisional Court on Wednesday.
