Siliguri, 05th March: While the assembly elections are just around the corner, the Phansidewa police arrested 9 men along with firearms. The arrested accused have been identified as Mohammad Jamal (30), Badirul Islam (31), Habibur Rahman (45), Nur Islam (23), Safizul Islam (24), Osman Ali (26), Mohammad Kalim (24), Makleshwar Rahman (35) and Mohammad Khaleq (24). Out of them, Mohammad Jamal is a resident of Bangladesh.
The police spotted a suspicious vehicle while patrolling in the Haptiagachh area on Thursday night. After a short chase, the police successfully caught hold of the vehicle near Chathat area. Two pistols, 16 rounds of fresh cartridges, and several mobile phones were recovered from the vehicle.
The arrested individuals were produced at the Siliguri court and an appeal has been made for police custody. An investigation has been launched into the whole incident.
