Siliguri, 19th February: The price of petrol has crossed Rs 90 in the city, the fourth consecutive hike in fuel rates, leaving transporters and private car owners fuming.
In this context, a nationwide strike has been called on February 26 by Confederation Of All India Trade Associations. Niranjan Agarwal, co-president of the All India Transporters Welfare Association (Eastern Zone), said that freight trucks used to earlier travel 100 km a day. However, since January, a new rule has been implemented where the vehicles have to travel 200 km per day.
Agarwal stated that the truckers are facing difficulties in following the new rules, mainly due to poor roads and fuel price hike. Hence, the AITWA have joined hands with the Confederation of All India Traders and will support the Bharat Bandh strike on February 26 from 6 am to 8 pm.
