Petition filed in Supreme Court demanding removal of West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee

New Delhi, 06th January: A petition has been filed in the Supreme Court, on Monday, demanding the direction of the Governor of West Bengal to remove West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee for “demanding UN-monitored referendum on Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA)”.

During the recent Anti-CAA protest, Mamata Banerjee had demanded a referendum under the United Nations (UN) monitoring of the Citizenship (Amendment) Act 2019 (CAA). Mamata who has been opposing the contentious citizenship law, earlier stated that there must be an impartial organization like the United Nations or Human Rights Commission to form a committee to see how many people are in favor of and against CAA.
